The Doors perform two shows tonight at Bill Graham's recently-opened venue, the Fillmore East in New York. These are often considered among the best performances of their career. Sadly, no recordings have surfaced.
The band screens "The Unknown Soldier" film
prior to performing the song during each set. The setlists below come from concert reviews and may be incomplete. During the first show, "Not To Touch The Earth" was partially performed as an introduction to "Light My Fire." It's doubtful "The Celebration Of The Lizard" was performed in its entirety during the late show; rather, a segment of it such as "Not To Touch The Earth" or "Wake Up" or "A Little Game" and "The Hill Dwellers" was likely performed.
It was during the early show tonight that Life
magazine photographer Yale Joel was present just behind the band taking photos
. During the instrumental portion of "Light My Fire," Jim takes Joel's camera and snaps a photo of Ray; he also prods John with a yellow daffodil while he plays before returning to the mic to finish the song.
